The president of the House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh, has gone to Mecca to perform Umrah. He is accompanied by six colleagues.
Although nothing has been announced, it is expected that he will meet Saudi officials either in Riyadh or Jeddah afterwards, possibly on Sunday or Monday. This means that there is little chance of a meeting of the HoR this coming week, although Salah himself this week had called on HoR members to turn up to Tobruk as soon as possible to vote on the Government of National Accord (GNA).
Ageela had flown to Jeddah from Cairo where he met Egyptian officials. While in Cairo, speaking to the press, he claimed that he had no problems with Faiez Serraj being prime minister but that due constitutional process had to be followed – meaning that until there was a vote in favour by the HoR, neither the GNA nor the Presidency Council existed in Libyan law.
