Tripoli, 14 September 2015:

Mohammed Al-Dairi was tonight in Cairo refusing to accept the validity of his suspension as foreign . . .[restrict]minister.

Dairi has been accused of ordering the issuance of diplomatic passports to people not entitled to them and also of “administrative irregularities”, reportedly in relation to his expenses.

His suspension, pending further investigation, was ordered by the House of Representatives Administrative Control Committee.  That body’s chairman, Abdel Salam Hassi, called on the Thinni government to enforce the suspension and demanded an investigation into the allegations against Dairi.

The Libya Herald understands that prime minister Thinni has accepted the demand that Dairi be suspended, saying that the law must take its course. However, it is not clear if he has yet appointed anyone to assume the foreign ministry brief on a temporary basis.

Dairi, who only eleven days ago was in Beijing meeting China’s president Xi Jinping, has denied any wrong-doing and is refusing to resign. It is unclear when he plans to return to Libya to defend himself before the HoR.
