Paris, 25 August 2015:

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Al-Dairi, has called on France to help end the . . .[restrict]UN weapons ban which the Libyan government says it preventing it fighting against the Islamic State terrorists in Sirte and elsewhere in Libya.

The call was made during talks this morning with the French Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius, in Paris. Also under discussion were other areas of French potential support for the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Beida-based government.

Al-Dairi was accompanied by the chairman of the foreign affairs committee in the House of Representatives, Idris Abdullah Faraj Al-Maghrabi as well as by Sirte HoR member Zaid Abubakr, military adviser Colonel Ahmed Abdussalam Al-Hassi, and Libyan Ambassador to France Alshiabani Abuhamoud.

The ambassador is seen as one of the front runners as the HoR’s nominee for the prime ministership in the new government of national unity.

Dairi had previously been to London looking for the same support from the UK.

He was last in Paris in January when he attended the anti-terrorism rally following the attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine which left 12 people dead. [/restrict]
