The House of Representatives (HoR) today voted to appoint Brigadier-General Mustafa Al-Magraan as Libya’s new intelligence chief.
Magraan, . . .[restrict]who was one of seven candidates for the post, had the support of 60 HoR members out of 106 at today’s session. From Ajilat, 80 kilometres west of Tripoli, he has 28 years of military experience.
According to Faraj Buhashem, the HoR spokesman, the runner-up was Abdullah Drissi with 46 votes.
Both had been seen as front-runners for the job.
The appointment follows the departure of Salim Al-Hassi. Although he was reported to have resigned in June 2014, the HoR decided to remove him in February amid claims of intelligence failures following the killing of Egyptian Christians by Islamic State fighters.
