The Libyan Airports Authority (LAA) confirmed today that an official Tunisian aviation delegation comprising . . .[restrict]of the Tunisian Aviation Authority and Tunisian Airlines completed a field visit to the following Libyan international airports:
1-Maetiga Airport
2-Misrata Airport
3-Zuwara Airport
4-Tobruk Airport
5-Labrak Airport
The LAA confirmed that the Tunisian Aviation delegation field visit was carried out with the view of assessing these airports and ascertaining their readiness to receive flights from Tunisia.
It will be recalled that currently no international airliners are flying to any Libyan airports besides the ‘‘evacuation’’ flights conducted by the Maltese-based charter airliner Medavia. Equally a long-standing EU flight ban on Libyan registered aircraft is still in place.
The Libyan authorities have been making great efforts for months in order to be able to fly to Tunisia and receive Tunisian Airlines flights. At one stage in March this year a single Afriqiyah Airways flight successfully made it into Sfax airport, before the service was suddenly terminated by the Tunisian side. [/restrict]
