Ghariyan, 29 March 2015:

The shortage of materials for passports continues to plague Libyans who wish to obtain new . . .[restrict]passports, the latest complaints coming from Gharyan’s Office of Passports and Citizenship Affairs.

The outer cover for the passports is currently unavailable, making it impossible to meet  requests for a new passport. Director of the Gharyan branch Rowad Al-Magheiri said that the passport office only receives 80 new passport covers per week, while the office is the main branch for residents applying for passports from a number of Jebel Nafusa towns.

Gharyan resident Mabrouk Al-Ashab told the Libya Herald that he first visited the office to obtain a passport in mid-December and was told to return with his medical records. He returned on 16 March after finally getting his medical records and proceeded to wait in line for more than three days. He has now been told that he will have to wait until early April before he can take his passport.
