The Libyan government has decided to form a Libyan-Egyptian inspection committee to monitor Egyptian foods . . .[restrict]export destined for Libya.
The joint committee would be situated within the Egyptian border and so would be able to refuse entry to Egyptian products – before they enter Libya.
The decision was revealed at the cabinet meeting of Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni on Thursday, aimed at protecting Libyan consumers from goods coming in from Egypt that may not be within health and safety standards.
It will be recalled that since the February 2011 revolution and the breakdown of government institutions and government control, there have been numerous cases of substandard consumer products entering Libya, with the problem more prominent at the land borders. [/restrict]
