Tunis: 20 February 2015:
A probable second attempt to blow up the Sarir Oil pipeline as been foiled after a . . .[restrict]member of the Petroleum Facilities Guard spotted an explosive device six kilometres away from the 14 February blast that wrecked the line and caused a huge blaze.
The second device was made safe by engineers from the Libyan National Army. It is not clear if these explosives were planted at the same time as the first but failed to detonate. The first fire at pumping station 82 was extinguished within 48 hours. Engineers from ACOCO, which owns the Sarir field, are understood to be starting repairs to the line which runs to the Hariga oil export terminal.
The PFG have not said who they think is to blame. However, sources have told the Libya Herald that the attacks may have been carried out by local tribes rather than IS terrorists who were said to have been behind the first explosion.
