Tripoli, 28 October 2014:
Asked by Libya Herald if the UN was simply mediating talks for the sake of talks . . .[restrict]between the conflicting parties in Libya, Bernardino Leon refuted the proposition.
Leon is the UN’s Special Representative to the Secretary General in Libya (SRSG). He is currently mediating UN-led talks between representatives of the Libya Dawn /GNC coalition and the House of Representatives and their Abdullah Thinni government.
“I was very clear in (the) Ghadames (talks). We met not for the sake of the process (of dialogue)”, insisted the UN’s SRSG.
“The people in Libya are very clear. They want a solution (to the problem)”. However, Leon went on to stress that he and the UN were “at the beginning of the process, and (the Libyan) people have expectations of results”.
However, “we should give time for sides to reach results”, he concluded in his reply to Libya Herald. [/restrict]
