Tripoli, 18 September 2014:

A new passenger lounge has been opened at Mitiga airport, Tripoli’s only functioning air link since . . .[restrict]Tripoli International was destroyed last month

Ministers from the Omar Hassi’s “National Salvation” government, appointed by the rump of the GNC and councillors from Suq Al-Juma attended a ceremony to open the lounge yesterday. The new area was planned last year, primarily to improve the service to Haj passengers, most of whom have used Mitiga to leave on pilgrimage. The first groups of pilgrims are now travelling to Saudi Arabia.

A more ambitious project at the airport is a the expansion of the terminal. Earlier this mont deal was reportedly about to be signed with a Turkish company that had undertaken to complete the work in just 60 days.  No further details of this undertaking have been revealed. [/restrict]
