Militants broke into and ransacked the storage facility of the Libyan Red Crescent Society on . . .[restrict]Sunday, only to return the goods two days later.
The warehouse, located in the Gasr Ben Gashir area near Tripoli International Airport, was robbed of everything inside, according to Mohamed Misrati, spokesman for the Libyan Red Crescent Society in Tripoli.
The warehouse was strategic to the whole region around Tripoli, and was used for the distribution of Ramadan baskets and relief materials for those displaced by the fighting in the capital, he added.
Red Crescent workers were, however, surprised on Tuesday when they returned to the warehouse and found all of the stolen goods stacked up at the front of the store.
Misrati said that he was grateful that the thieves had corrected what they had done by returning the goods. The Libyan Red Crescent’s goal is to meet the needs of those in crisis, regardless of political or tribal background, he said.
Red Crescent volunteers must not be targeted, he said. The aid orgainsation must be able to provide aid and medical care to all who need it without unnecessary risk to its workers. [/restrict]
