Tripoli, 9 August 2014:

The House of Representatives (HoR) held its fourth meeting yesterday evening in the city of Tobruk, . . .[restrict]and reported that it debated three items:

First, was the completion of the formation of the Liaison Committee to include Representatives from each region.

Secondly, the HoR discussed the process of choosing Libya’s head of state (by direct popular election or by election through HoR) and postponed its discussion any further until Monday.

Thirdly, the HoR discussed the procedures for the detailed handover between it and the GNC. It decided to authorize the HoR Presidency to take the necessary steps.

On Thursday, Representative for Tripoli Ali Tekbali, however, had reported that the HoR had postponed a sitting on Thursday to discuss lifting the legal recognition of militias and disbanding them until Saturday – after the arrival of the Ministers of Defence and Justice and the head of intelligence in Tobruk for questioning.

However, there was no mention of this by the HoR in yesterday’s official statement.

It is worth noting that the HoR has met for work on Friday and plans to meet for work on Saturday in its first week of work – reflecting the anxiety of the Libyan public and the crises Libya is currently going through. [/restrict]
