Acting Interior Minister Saleh Mazegh met yesterday with his Maltese counterpart Manuel Mallia in Valletta . . .[restrict]to discuss fuel smuggling between the two countries as well security at Libya’s ports and coast so as to cut down on people smuggling across the Mediterranean.
Passport and visa issues were also on the agenda.
Last month, Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni told Malta that it had to act on fuel smuggling from Libya to Malta, which he said was on the increase. The issue has been particularly galling to Libyans who are still facing patrol station queues in Tripoli although the situation is not as appalling as it was last month.
Talks between the two sides will continue over the next few days. Mazegh was accompanied by a number of senior government officials who will be holding separate talks with their Maltese counterparts on a variety of bilateral issues. [/restrict]
