Afriqiyah Airways has cancelled its flights today between Tripoli and London Gatwick due to the current . . .[restrict]security situation in Libya.
“Passengers booked on today’s flights should be able rebook on tomorrow’s services, which are expected to operate as normal,” an Afriqiyah representative told the Libya Herald.
“Today’s cancellations were due to security issues so this is a case of force majeure,” the representative said. “This means the cancellation was beyond our control, so no compensation can be offered to affected passengers.”
It is understood that the aircraft due to operate today’s services was last night diverted to Misrata because of fighting in Tripoli, and flew to the capital early this morning. Afriqiyah initially delayed today’s flights to London and the return leg to Tripoli but eventually cancelled flights both ways due to ongoing unrest in the capital.
Tripoli International Airport was reported to be open and functioning this morning. [/restrict]
