Tripoli, 17 June 2013:
Libya’s new UN ambassador is the man who, when serving in New York in February 2011, . . .[restrict]became the first Libyan diplomat to break ranks with the Qaddafi regime, denouncing its attack on the people of Benghazi.
Ibrahim Omar Dabbashi was then serving as deputy Libyan ambassador at the UN. His early defection and support for the Revolution triggered a series of similar diplomatic departures in the following weeks and months.
The GNC today decided today to send Dabbashi back to New York, this time as the full ambassador. He will replace Abdurrahman Shalgham, who has resigned. The 63-year old Dabbashi is a native of Sabratha. [/restrict]
