Tripoli, 1 June 2013:

Qatar Airways has announced that flights between Qatar and Tripoli are no longer stopping in the Egyptian city . . .[restrict]of Alexandria as of today. As a result, says the airline, it can offer additional seats on flights. It also means that flight times are shorter.

Qatar Airways has also rescheduled flights to Casablanca, ending a stopover in Tunis. Flights to all four cities are now non-stop.

“We are delighted to resume non-stop flights from 1 June to our two popular North African destinations,” said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker in a press statement.

“Today’s announcement is a significant step by Qatar Airways as we show our continued confidence in North Africa. This means more capacity and improved travel times to and from Tripoli and Casablanca to destinations across our network.”

The change, says the airline, will mean that apssengers also have easier access through Doha to more than 100 destinations worldwide including Beijing, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Manila, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Bombay, Delhi and Singapore.

Among new Qatar Airways destinations launched so far this year are Gassim (Saudi Arabia), Najaf (Iraq), Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Salalah (Oman). Other destinations planned are Basra and Sulaymaniyah (Iraq, on 3 June and 20 August respectively), Chengdu, China (3 September ) and Clark International Airport, Philippines (28 October).

Qatar Airways reintroduced scheduled services between Doha and Tripoli in February last year.  Initially, the route was served three-times-a-week, via Alexandria. Due to demand the services increased to daily services last August.

Qatar Airways also serves Benghazi with four flights each week directly from Doha.
