Tripoli, 21 May 2013:
The European Union has announced the appointment of Bulgarian diplomat Nataliya Apostolova as the head of its mission . . .[restrict]in Tripoli. She replaces Peter Zsoldos who has returned to work as a Slovak diplomat.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Nataliya Apostolova to head up our Delegation in Tripoli,” said Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued today. “Her talent and expertise are significant assets for the EU’s external action and I look forward to working with her in support of stability and the transition to democracy in Libya.”
Apostolova is currently the EU’s Deputy Head of Delegation in Egypt and previously worked in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and at the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the EU.
According to the EU statement, it presence in Libya has been expanded significantly since the start of the revolution in 2011. However, it is currently reassessing the logistics of its physical presence following the attack on the French embassy last month [/restrict]
