Tripoli, 22 April, 2013:
The brother of Hassan Milaiqtah, killed on Thursday when gunmen ambushed a prisoner . . .[restrict]convoy in Sidi Mesri near Tripoli University, today attempted to close Tripoli International Airport. He and a group of other Zintanis tried but failed to take control of the access to the airport early this morning.
Hassan Milaiqtah was killed when 15 gunmen attacked a convoy taking prisoners from Tarjoura prison to the court in Tripoli. (It was reported earlier that the attach occurred while the prisoners were heading to Tajoura.) He was not believed to have been the target of the attack.
He was arrested in January, accused of the killing of Tohamy Duaibi, a well-known and respected former revolutionary from Tripoli’s Zawiat Al-Dahmani district.
Tohamy was killed after gunmen arrived at the farm near Tripoli’s Airport Road where he and friends were staying and ordered everyone to lie on the ground; he refused.
His death was seen as a last straw by many in Tripoli and resulted in outrage at the actions of illegal militias and resulted in a backlash against them.
It was earlier freported but then denied that an hand-made bomb had been thrown at the entrance to the airport.
