Prime Minister Ali Zeidan and members of his government were called before the GNC to answer . . .[restrict]questions today in a session carried live by TV stations.
The session, unlike the previous one of a few months ago, was notable for its decorum and civil manner. The Prime Minister and his Ministers took turns to answer questions.
Zeidan was eloquent, calm and unruffled. He stood his ground and responded to most questions-cum-accusations politely but confidently.
Zeidan was asked numerous questions some of which were of local and others of national interest.
Speaking of the ministries of Interior and Defence, Zeidan insisted that they both act in a coordinated manner and that neither could act unilaterally.
Zeidan stressed that the government system and apparatus had become dilapidated under the old regime and it needed rebuilding which required time and money. With the passage of the budget this could now be worked on. This rebuilding included the police, the army and its Border Guards – and was making progress.
The Prime Minister refuted the allegation that he did not consult the GNC enough. He quoted several examples of how he was in constant contact with the GNC leadership – including Magarief during his recuperation abroad.
Looking at some of Libya’s Health attachés abroad, the Prime Minister and his Health Minister confirmed that they were in the process of replacing them.
To a question about Libyan ambassadors regarded as part of the former regime, Zeidan responded that he had issued letters to replace them since January.
By the end, the session had been unable to get through the 74 tabled questions. It also had to be postponed at 3 pm due to the cabinet meeting scheduled for 3.30 pm and the Prime Minister’s imminent visit abroad.
The Prime Minister and his Ministers were requested to return to the GNC within two weeks.
