Tripoli, 19 December:
The Ghadames Water and Sanitation Company has made significant headway with maintenance work on the drinking water supply and sewage . . .[restrict]pipelines in the town.
Ashraf Qallal, director of the company’s support department, told the Libyan state news agency that maintenance work had now been completed on over 90 percent of the drinking water network and more than 60 percent of the sewage lines.
More than nine kilometres of drinking water pipelines had been repaired and maintained, he said, as had around six kilometres of sewage pipelines.
Qallal warned, however, that the town’s three drinking water wells were all in need of urgent attention. He said one of them had been stopped recently owing to poor productivity and lack of maintenance, and that the other two could not cope on their own and also needed upgrading.
The official also stressed the need to reactivate stalled contracts with the Arab Contractors Company and to source the necessary engineers to carry out remaining works. [/restrict]
