The Minister of Economy and Trade, Suhail Abu Shiha, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr. Mohamed Al-Ghouj, last Wednesday (13 May), approved a memorandum of understanding and cooperation to regulate the health and pharmaceutical sector, and enhance institutional integration, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health.
The memorandum included cooperation to enhance governance and regulatory compliance in the market of medicines, medical supplies and equipment, and the development of joint electronic control systems to support tracking, transparency and the safety of supply chains, and work to combat monopolistic practices and price distortions.
The ministers also held a meeting, in the presence of the directors of the competent departments and offices, during which they discussed the executive procedures to activate the regulation of private laboratories approved by the Minister of Economy and Trade Decree No. 256 of 2026, and the attendees also discussed the mechanism of preparing a regulation regulating the professional register of medical professions.
It was agreed to start the executive procedures to activate the Memorandum of Understanding and the Private Laboratories Regulations, in a way that contributes to the development and raising the level of health services.
