The Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade announced yesterday Decision No. (272) of 2026 (dated 17 May 2026) authorizing the Ministry of Health to use seven accredited international inspection companies to conduct external inspections on shipments of medicines and medical equipment at export ports outside Libya.
The Economy Ministry said this comes within the framework of strengthening control procedures and ensuring that products conform to approved specifications and standards.
Accreditation of international inspection companies
The decision included the accreditation of several international companies specializing in inspection and conformity assessment, in accordance with the regulations and procedures governing this activity, which contributes to raising the efficiency of oversight of imports related to the health sector.
The accredited international inspection companies are:
– SGS
– Bureau Veritas
– Intertek
– TÜV Rheinland
– Cotecna
– Dekra
– Eurofins Scientific
International inspection companies must open Representative Offices in Libya
The decision also stipulated that the accredited inspection companies must adhere to a number of regulations, including setting a ceiling on inspection fees, referring the international inspection companies accredited by the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, and obligating the companies to open commercial representative offices within Libya within a period not exceeding (60) days from the date of issuance of the decision.
