The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a former financial controller and a former internal auditor at the Ministry of Health.
The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that its Deputy Prosecutor investigated the regularity of administrative and financial procedures related to the disbursement of 86,404,095 dinars from funds allocated to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The investigation revealed that the two employees had abused their official authority by authorizing the disbursement of the funds to companies that had not been commissioned by the administration to supply medical equipment and supplies to support the pandemic response efforts, and without these companies having been assigned any work related to the purpose for which the funds were allocated.
Based on this, the Public Prosecution ordered the pretrial detention of the two defendants pending further investigation and directed the prosecution of the remaining individuals involved.
