‘‘U.S. experts’’ visit Sirte’s single pivot agricultural irrigation circles – 87 irrigation circles will be restarted in 2025

Libya’s eastern-based National Development Agency (NDA) reported yesterday that its Director General received a delegation from US company Farm Tech at his office in Benghazi.

The meeting discussed the NDA’s plan to unify several pivot irrigation projects in the deep southwest of Libya (Wadi Atba Municipality – about 190 km southwest of Sebha) into a one-thousand pivot irrigation project – in partnership with Farm Tech.

The NDA says this comes as part of an ambitious strategic agricultural project aimed at developing and integrating the Burjuj, Tasawa, and Maknusa agricultural projects into a unified production system, encompassing approximately 1,000 pivot irrigation circuits (50 hectares each), scheduled to become operational during the 2027-2028 agricultural season.

The meeting focused on exploring avenues for technical and technological cooperation and leveraging Farm Tech Company’s global expertise in integrated agricultural mechanization. This collaboration aims to support the project’s implementation according to the highest operational standards, contributing to increased agricultural production efficiency and enhanced sustainability in desert regions.
