Minister of Economy Hwej discusses with French Ambassador activation of trade agreements signed between the two countries

Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

During his meeting with the Ambassador of France, Thierry Vallat, at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters yesterday, the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, discussed the possibility of activating trade agreements signed between the two countries, within the framework of strengthening trade and investment relations between business owners and companies in both countries.

Establishment of a Strategic Partnership
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that Libya looks forward to strengthening the trade and investment partnership with the France and activating the signed agreements, most importantly the Declaration of Intent on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership signed in 2010.

He also called on the French side to continue its support for Libya and urged French companies to participate in the reconstruction and development plan. He noted that the Ministry of Economy and Trade is monitoring the activities of the 33 French companies operating in the Libyan market in various sectors and aims to enhance economic partnership and investment in the oil and gas, solar energy, and health sectors, and to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two sides.

Organize joint economic and investment forums
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to enhance communication between the relevant departments of the Ministry and the Commercial Office of the French Embassy, ​​and to organize a joint economic and investment forum, in coordination with the Chambers of Commerce and the Business Council in both countries, to present promising investment opportunities and network between companies and investors.
