Libya’s Tripoli based Tax Authority announced today that it is to launch an anti-tax evasion drive.

It revealed that as part of its strategy to support the public treasury and preserve public funds, it has formed a joint committee, in cooperation with the Municipal Guard, to combat tax evasion, which it described as ‘‘a challenge to the national economy’’.

Joint action plan with Municipal Guards – field visits targeting potential evaders
To this end, the Tax Authority said it had held a coordination meeting to develop a joint action plan, which includes conducting field visits targeting companies and commercial activities to monitor their compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.

Legal action to be taken against tax-evaders
The Tax Authority confirmed that legal action will be taken against violators, noting that this step comes within the framework of intensifying efforts to improve tax collection efficiency and consolidate the principle of tax justice, thus enhancing the country’s financial stability.
