The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced yesterday the results of its online survey, which was open for two months, on the four options proposed by the Advisory Committee to break the political deadlock in Libya. Only 22,500 people participated in the poll.
UNSMIL will use these results and its in-person and online consultations to develop the new political roadmap, which will be announced during the Security Council briefing next Thursday.
The mission explained that:
- 42% of the respondents said that holding simultaneous presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible is their preferred way to break the political deadlock that has been going on in the country for a decade, which is the first proposal of the Advisory Committee.
- 23% of the votes chose the fourth proposal of the Advisory Committee, which provides for the dissolution of existing institutions, the convening of a dialogue forum to appoint a new executive body, and the selection of a 60-member Constituent Assembly, which would approve an interim constitution and electoral laws for national elections.
