Libya announces exploration public tender round – after a seventeen-year hiatus

Libya announced a public tender round for oil and gas exploration yesterday – the first in seventeen years,

‎The official announcement was made at a grand ceremony in Tripoli by Acting Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Masoud Suleiman Mousa.

‎During a speech at the launch ceremony, in the presence of the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, the Acting Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, Massoud stressed that more than two-thirds of the Libyan territory is waiting to explore the abundant bounties lurking in its interior.‎

‎New exploration brings regional development and jobs and activates the private sector
The Acting NOC Chairman pointed out that exploration in new areas does not only mean oil and gas production, but is a source of life in those areas and their development, which will contribute to supporting the private sector, which will participate in providing support services for exploration and drilling work, thus increasing national income, as well as providing large areas of new job opportunities for young Libyan job seekers. ‎

He explained that the return of major companies to explore in Libya will strengthen Libya’s position among the world’s oil countries, and will add new reserves of oil and gas to replace the quantities produced in the past, which will contribute to increasing Libya’s production of oil and gas in accordance with the NOC’s plans.‎

‎A number of officials from Libyan institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of foreign oil companies, members of the NOC Board of Directors, directors of departments and heads of departments, and a group of sector employees participated in the ceremony.‎

‎The committee in charge of preparing for the public tender round presented a visual technical presentation, which included accurate and complete details about the tender, its technical conditions and approved specifications.‎
