The chairman of Libya’s state Telecommunications Holding Company (LPTIC), Mohamed Ben Ayad, held a follow-up meeting yesterday to discuss the project to make Libya a global digital centre.

‎The meeting discussed LPTIC’s strategic vision to make Libya a global digital centre by taking advantage of its strategic geographical location.

The project is based on three main pillars:

  • terrestrial and submarine fibre optic cables
  • national data centres
  • the Libya Sat project

The LPTIC said the project aims to strengthen Libya’s position as a regional and global digital data link, and to develop internet services and digital infrastructure.‎

‎The project, LPTIC explained, will contribute to strengthening Libya’s position as a regional and global digital link by increasing the contribution of the telecommunications sector to GDP.

It also seeks to support smart digital transformation in the country by providing advanced infrastructure, high-quality internet speeds that meet the needs of digital transformation and smart services and aims to attract global investments through partnerships with major technology companies.

The project also aims to develop economic and investment opportunities that promote sustainable economic growth and place Libya at the forefront of digital countries.‎

‎The Libya Gateway to the Digital World project, LPTIC says, embodies its vision in transforming Libya into a global hub for data exchange and communications between continents, taking advantage of its strategic location, making it a new gateway to the digital world.‎

The meeting was in the presence of the Technical Advisor, member of the Board of Directors, the Project Manager of the Optical Fiber Project, the Director of the Infrastructure Project for the World Gateway, and members of the Project Implementation teams.‎
