At the COP28 summit Tuesday, Farhat Bengdara, the chairman of Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) unveiled the NOC’s “Think Tomorrow” initiative. The aim of the initiative is to achieve a green and sustainable future for Libya by adopting environmentally friendly practices.

Eradicating gas flaring and waste oil lakes
These green, sustainable and environmentally friendly practices include eradicating gas flaring and waste oil lakes in Libya’s oil and gas fields.

Harnessing 3,200 hours of sunlight
The initiative also aims to make Libya the next solar energy powerhouse. This, Bengdara revealed, includes focusing on generating renewable energy to supply oil fields with clean energy by harnessing 3,200 hours of sunlight.

One million trees by 2025?
The Think Tomorrow initiative also plans to increase green spaces in the oil territories by planting one million trees by 2025, which, Bengdara said, will absorb 24,000 tons of CO2 annually.

COP 28 2023 Dubai
The 28th Conference of Parties is being held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from 30 November until 12 December 2023. At the event, representatives from 197 countries are showcasing and their efforts to limit global warming and prepare for future climate change.
