Minister of Economy and Trade directs preparation for national vision for digital economy

Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, held a meeting last Tuesday at the Ministry’s Tripoli office to review the project of building a digital economy and e-commerce in Libya.

The wide meeting included Saad Al-Hanish, Undersecretary for Economic Affairs, and  Ahmed Al-Darwish, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libya Trade Network, the Department of Private Sector Development and Investment, the Ministry’s Economic Modelling Office, the Privatization and Investment Board (PIB), the General Commercial Registry Authority, the General Authority for Communications and Information, the General Authority of Customs, the Tax Authority, the European Union Mission in Libya, and Expertise France.

Digital transformation reviewed
The attendees followed a visual presentation on the digital transformation project at the Ministry of Economy and Trade, its affiliated bodies, ministries and relevant government bodies. The difficulties and obstacles facing the implementation of the project and ways to address them were also reviewed, and work was done to complete the implementation stages in cooperation with the European Union delegation and Expertise France.

The Minister stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the competent departments of the Ministry and its affiliated bodies with the ministries and bodies related to the national vision project for building the digital economy. He also directed the preparation of a vision regarding developing legislation and regulations governing the relevant sectors and working to implement the project through qualified national cadres and providing the technical support necessary in cooperation with researchers and international experts affiliated with the European Union mission and Expertise France.
