The Minister of Transport of the Tripoli-based Libyan government, Mohamed al-Shahubi, reviewed a field presentation on the use of improved cement in paving roads and the latest scientific innovations in this field.

Saves time, effort, material, and money
Speaking exclusively Libya Herald, a spokesman for the Ministry of Transportation, Siraj Al-Hamal, said, “In implementation of the plan set by the Ministry of Communications to improve the quality of roads and the materials used in their construction and maintenance, some innovative solutions have been chosen.

These will use materials in the construction and maintenance of roads, which reduce the use of other traditional materials such as asphalt and ordinary cement. This reduces the time used in constructing roads, as well as the effort, machinery and equipment needed to implement a road using old methods and traditional materials.

The Minister of Transportation, and those accompanying him, were briefed on the implementation of an experimental road using a test sample with RoadCem additives that can stabilize any type of natural soil without the need to replace it. This, it was explained, saves on initial construction costs, and reduces the implementation time from 30 to 70 percent compared to paving roads in the traditional way.

Nanotechnology products reduce maintenance
These additives were tested by preparing the site for conducting the test and preparing the tools and devices for the implementation by using the “RoadCem” product, which is one of the PowerCem company’s products, which are products with nanotechnology which are implemented in ways that do not need maintenance for long periods.

Al-Hamal said that among these modern techniques for road construction is soil cement, which is considered a high-density, compacted mixture, and has a low cost of crushed natural soil, cement and water backfill, or used as cladding for heavy concrete drainage pipes, or also used for slope protection.

Ministry of Transportation to adopt RoadCem
Al-Hamal noted the desire of the Ministry of Transportation to adopt this type of road paving material in Libya, especially with its adoption by several Arab countries, including Egypt, in paving roads with these additives, which carry several advantages, including reducing costs, effort and time.

The Minister was accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Land Transport Affairs, Fadlallah Rafallah, the Head of the Roads and Bridges Authority, Hussein Sweidan, the Assistant Chairman of the Authority and the Director General of the Transportation Projects Implementation Agency, Sami Al-Abash, and a number of directors of government agencies in the field of construction, roads and bridges.
