The Director of the Media Office of the Brega Oil Company, Ahmed Al-Masalati, said that an instant cooking gas cylinder filling system has been completed and operated in the city of Jalo. The system will facilitate easy access to cooking gas cylinders for all residents of the municipalities of the Wahat oases region surrounding the municipality of Jalo.

The inauguration of the filling system took place last Thursday, in the presence of the Chairman of Brega Oil Marketing Company, Fouad Belrahim, and board member, Ahmed Mhamed Al-Majbari, and in the presence of several mayors of the oasis municipalities.

Cylinders to be sold at official prices
Al-Masalati said that the instant filling system operates with a production capacity of a cylinder every 50 seconds sold at the official price approved by the Libyan Ministry of Economy, which is two dinars for the consumer.

To meet increasing demand
He said the new instant gas cylinder filling system will meet the local citizens’ need for cooking gas in the region and is part of Brega’s strategy to reduce the burden on the citizen and facilitate the process of supplying this vital product, especially with the growing consumption rate resulting from the increase in population density and resolving the bottlenecks associated with this increase.

Assembly and installation through local cadres
Al-Masalati said that the installation and equipment of cooking gas filling systems are assembled and modified within the company’s warehouses and through their own capabilities by local cadres.

Historic smuggling and black-market trading
It will be recalled that there has been a problem in supplying cooking gas cylinders to cities and regions beyond coastal Libya for years. The subsidised gas cylinders, at LD 2 per cylinder, encourage black-market trading and smuggling to states surrounding Libya. This has led to the price of gas cylinders reaching tens and hundreds of dinars during supply crisis.

Brega has launched a strategy to localise the filling of gas cylinders across Libya to avoid black-market trading and smuggling.
