The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej met with businessmen and owners of Turkish companies in Istanbul last Thursday. The Turkish businessmen included Murtaza Karanfil, chairperson of the Foreign Economic Relations Board’s (DEIK) Turkey-Libya Business Council, president of the Istanbul-based Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MUSIAD) and head of the Karanfil Group.

The Economy Ministry said the meeting discussed the situation of Turkish companies operating in Libya. It reported that Minister Hwej, referring to the Libyan economy being the fastest developing Arab economy in 2023, stressed that the rise of the Libyan economy lies in achieving cooperation and integration with the private sector and international participation.

He said there is a need to hold a meeting in the near future in Libya that includes Turkish companies and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the Libyan Business Council, the Libyan Industry Union and relevant authorities to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities.
