Zliten to host several multi-sector business events with British, Italian, Turkish, Algerian and Tunisian participation

The city of Zliten intends to hold several economic activities and events after the holy month of Ramadan. The events will specialise in various industrial and commercial fields, including the manufacture and trade of building materials, animal feed, fishing and processing and preserving fish, in addition to various economic forums. International participation is expected from Britain, Italy, Turkey, Algeria and Tunisia.

The revelation came through a Libya Herald exclusive interview with member of the Board of Directors of Zliten Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Jalal Bani.

Zliten’s growing industrial sector
Commenting on the ‘‘First Meeting of Libyan Businessmen and Industrialists” held in Zliten on 11 March, Bani said sponsoring this event and supervising its organization from the Zliten Chamber comes in light of the growing number of industrial and commercial projects in the city in the fields of foodstuffs, iron and steel, cement, plastic industries, and the animal feed industry and the fish canning industry.

Private sector to play its role
He said the forum had discuss several files that help organize the private sector to play its role in supporting the national economy, diversifying internal sources, and actively contributing to raising the gross domestic product, considering the private sector as the main tributary of the public sector.

Zliten developing industrial zone
He pointed out that Zliten Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture is working on developing a map for industries within the city and establishing an industrial and commercial zone in cooperation with the Industrial Zones Authority, the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Urban Planning Authority. In this industrial zone, the infrastructure for support services are available such as banks, insurance companies, warehouses and logistics which will be a destination for investors from inside and outside the city.

At the First Meeting of Libyan Businessmen and Industrialists
It will be recalled that at the ‘‘First Meeting of Libyan Businessmen and Industrialists” held in Zliten on 11 March, Tripoli-based Libyan Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba stressed the need to support businessmen, as they are the strongest and most important link in turning the wheel of the national economy and the first contributor to diversifying sources of income, settling industry, and employing the local workforce.

He called for the necessity of facilitating the task of small traders, especially those who have official licenses, by facilitating procedures and overcoming the difficulties experienced by the small merchant who owns small and medium enterprises.

The prime minister stressed the importance of adhering to the government’s decisions related to the provision of basic commodities during the month of Ramadan, and not speculating on prices and restricting Libyans, stressing that this matter will not be allowed.

The event was also attended by the head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Saddek El-Kaber, the Minister of Industry, the Minister of Economy and Trade, and the head of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, and in the presence of the Director General of the National Economic and social Development Board.
