The UNDP Accelerator Lab, together with the Economy Ministry’s National Programme of Small and Medium Enterprises, is leading a field visit Kufra.

The UNDP reported Wednesday that experts from the National Programme of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and a UNDP team are visiting several farms in the region to assess the potential for improved agriculture and agribusinesses, and the barriers women face in participating in agricultural value chains.

Kufra, it explained, a region in southern Libya bordering Egypt, Sudan and Chad, is well-suited to tropical and subtropical fruit growing, especially mangos and dates. Moreover, the increasing interest in these fruits for domestic consumption as well as the potential for exports makes them a prime target for development.

The UNDP reported that the field visit will also identifying opportunities for new its programmes in the south and will identify local needs, potential solutions to challenges and partnership opportunities.
