The pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and medical supplies sector in Tripoli has taken a huge step forward in organising itself under one roof by the opening of the 200-unit Tripoli Market Complex for Medicines, Equipment and Medical Supplies in the Fallah area of Tripoli.

The sector has had its reputational problems in the past, struggling with unofficial and substandard imports which had reflected negatively on leading international brands.

The market leaders have reacted proactively, sending a clear message regarding counterfeit products, by providing offices at the centre for the Medicines watchdog and the Municipality Guard.

The sprawling site which opened at the start of this month comprises of:

  • 200 commercial units
  • The Medicines Control Office
  • The Environmental Sanitation Office
  • A Municipal Guard Office
  • Three banks
  • Two cafes
  • Two restaurants
  • A supermarket for market the centre’s tenants
  • A mosque
  • Four administrative buildings for services and facilities
  • A three-megawatt power station specifically for the centre
  • Three three-megawatt generators
  • A garbage truck for the centre
  • A vehicle for transporting medical waste to the incinerator
  • Three main entry and exit gates
  • Car parking
  • The market has been implemented to the latest infrastructure specifications
