Leading U.S. pivot irrigation company Valmont met the Tripoli-based Libyan PM Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba in Tripoli Sunday.

They discussed using solar energy to help food production through Valmont’s 900 pivot irrigation systems installed across all of Libya covering 45,000 hectares. The pivot systems had been installed during the Qaddafi era bad had run into disrepair and suffered war and environmental damage since 2011. Libya is looking for Valmont’s help in reactivating the sector.

Explaining how Valmont could help Libya, Kalle Auto, Valmont’s Europe Middle East and Africa Vice President told Libya Herald “At Valmont, we are committed to conserving resources and improving life. We are honoured to partner again with the Libyan government to bring food security, economic diversification and regional development to the country.

Through this collaboration, we are also excited to contribute to the creation of knowledge and jobs for the youth. We are happy to be back to Libya and continue what we started years ago. ”

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, who is currently Acting Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Labour, the General Manager of Valmont for the Middle East, the Deputy Director of the Libyan American Chamber of Commerce and the local agent of the company in Libya.
