The Ministry of Health of the internationally recognized Libyan government based in Tripoli yesterday condemned what it called ‘‘the systematic and repeated’’ attacks on civilian residential neighbourhoods in Tripoli. These have caused the loss of innocent lives, the displacement of citizens, the destruction of homes and the increased suffering of citizens, it added.
The latest terrorist attacks on innocent lives carried out by the groups (understood to mean the Khalifa Hafter forces) attacking the capital Tripoli targeted the residence of displaced persons in the municipality of Ain Zara in Tripoli Saturday (16 May). The ministry said the attacks killed 7 displaced families in the municipality, including children, women and a member of the civil defence force.
The Ministry of Health said these acts are a violation of human rights, a violation of blood and war crimes in accordance with domestic and international humanitarian law and placed full responsibility for all these crimes on the outlaw groups (Hafter’s forces).
It said these groups have since the beginning of April 2019 (when Hafter launched his attack on Tripoli), have attacked the capital, displaced citizens, led to the loss of lives, destroyed property on a daily basis – all before the eyes of the entire world. It demanded that the Libyan government act to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Equally, two people were reported killed on Saturday when indiscriminate shelling hit Tripoli University residential quarters in the Furnaj district.
