The NTC Chairman Mustafa Abdul Jalil has said Egyptian workers will play a major role in the reconstruction . . .[restrict]of Libya. He also said that the government was committed to honour contracts of some $150 billion that the Qaddafi regime had signed with a number of countries in the world.
Jalil was talking to Al-Jazeera TV on Wednesday. In the interview, he also made it clear that there would be preferential treatment in the reconstruction process for the countries that helped in the liberation of Libya. “This will not, however, be at the expense of quality or international specifications and standards,” he pointed out.
Before the revolution, it was estimated that there were over 1.2 million Egyptians living and working in Libya. Most were labourers, including significant numbers of farmers and construction workers. Some 600,000 came from Upper Egypt alone.
