Independent Libyan carrier Buraq airlines has announced that it is cancelling all flights to Tunis for the rest of Ramadan. It says this is because of low demand. It promises that flights will be resumed after Eid.
Those who have booked tickets should contact the airlines organise new travel plans, it says.
Flights to Tunis are causing all Libyan carriers serious financial problems, a top official at Libyan Airlines recently told the Libya Herald. Increased landing fees at Tunis Carthage Airport meant that his own airline was now making a loss on every flight, he claimed. Asked why itcontinued to fly to Tunis if that were the case, or why it did not increase the cost of tickets, he replied that neither was possible.
“We are obliged to fly to Tunis,” he said, adding that there would be political problems if the ticket prices rose.
