In a strategic move to develop oil infrastructure and enhance storage capabilities, Brega Oil Marketing Company hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tajoura Oil Depot project this Wednesday morning.
Brega said this initiative falls under its strategic plan for 2025–2029 and is being executed in partnership with OLA Energy.
Fouad Ali Balraheem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Brega Oil Marketing Company, welcomed the Prime Minister’s envoy—the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Local Government for Municipal Affairs—during the ceremony. The event was attended by representatives from the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Brega’s board members, general managers and department heads, the Mayor of Tajoura Municipality, a representative from OLA Energy, and various other officials and relevant stakeholders.
The project aims to increase storage capacity, upgrade infrastructure, and improve the efficiency of the supply and distribution system. These measures are designed to enhance inventory management flexibility and bolster the company's operational capabilities.
Brega said this marks a significant step toward developing oil infrastructure and boosting storage capacities, thereby supporting the efficiency of the supply and distribution network and meeting local market needs, particularly in western Libya.
The project represents a strategic addition to the petroleum product storage and distribution system by providing new storage capacity and upgrading handling and filling facilities, which enhances supply stability and improves operational efficiency.
Brega Oil Marketing Company said this project marks a significant step in realising its vision to modernise its infrastructure and expand operational capabilities, thereby ensuring supply sustainability and meeting the demands of the local market.
Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model
The project is being implemented in partnership with OLA Energy under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, supporting the development of oil facilities and strengthening the readiness of the fuel supply system.
Storage capacities and integrated operational facilities: 226,300 cubic meters
The project entails the construction of storage tanks for petroleum products with a total capacity of 226,300 cubic meters—covering petrol, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, and cooking gas. It also includes a rotary gas cylinder filling unit with a capacity of up to 1,200 cylinders per hour and a truck-loading platform capable of handling up to 1,000 cubic meters per hour.
Additionally, the project involves the construction of two offshore discharge points and the installation of offshore and onshore pipelines, alongside the necessary firefighting, safety, control, and electrical systems and operational facilities. Upon completion and commencement of operations, the project is expected to boost storage capacity, enhance the efficiency of supply and distribution operations, reduce fuel transportation costs, support supply stability, and meet local demand.
The project is part of efforts to develop oil infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of the supply and distribution system to keep pace with future needs.
