The National Center for Cardiac Treatment and Surgery – Tajoura, Tripoli, released its figures for the activities of the Cardiac Emergency Unit and Outpatient Clinic for the month of September today
Medical Examinations (Outpatient Clinic and Emergency Unit)
The total number of cases undergoing medical examination reached 1,562, distributed by gender as follows:
Females: Recorded the highest attendance rate at 54.55% (852 cases).
Males: Accounted for 45.45% (710 cases).
Electrocardiogram (ECG) Examinations
The Centre explained that ECG serves as a key indicator for measuring operational volume and diagnostic testing within the Cardiac Emergency Unit; a total of 1,308 examinations were performed:
ECG Referral Rate: Approximately 83.74% of all patients visiting for medical examinations underwent an ECG.
This high rate highlights the Center’s specialized nature (focusing on suspected cardiac conditions or the monitoring of heart diseases).
Distribution by Gender: Females recorded a higher rate of ECG examinations, totaling 729 tests (55.73%), compared to 579 tests for males (44.27%).
Clinical and Operational Metrics
Patient Volume and Throughput:
During September, the unit recorded a daily patient volume of approximately 52 cases.
The Centre said this reflects the high efficiency of the medical and nursing staff in receiving, triaging, and continuously managing emergency cases.
Diagnostic Assessment Efficiency (ECG Coverage):
The Centre said 83.7% of all patients underwent an electrocardiogram (ECG) immediately upon admission.
This, it added, is an outstanding performance indicator that aligns with standard protocols for assessing acute coronary syndromes and chest pain.
The Heart Centre's statistics should be seen as part of the Tripoli government's policy of 'Localisation of Healthcare' - an effort to increase the number of different health treatments available free for citizens within Libya.
This, without having to seek them abroad at either the Libyan state's or their personal cost.
