A private passenger plane has crashed, overrunning the runway at Misrata Airport, while attempting an emergency landing this morning. The plane caught fire.

Early reports say the plane had an engine issue.

Circulating photos and videos show fire crews dousing the extinguished fire.

The plane is reported to be a Cessna 650. The plane is believed to have been empty with only the three-person crew on board.

These are the pilot, a German national, while the co-pilot and the flight attendant were from Turkey. The plane was scheduled to transport a political figure.

The Transport Ministry has confirmed that no fatalities have been reported. It said measures are being taken to reopen the airport.
