Tripoli based Libyan Deputy Prime Minister, Salem Zadma, announced yesterday that he had held a high-level meeting with the Ambassador of Algeria to Libya, Abdelkrim Rekaibi, and the Director General of Algerian Customs.
The meeting was also attended by the Director General of Libyan Customs and several department directors from the authority, within the framework of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly nations in customs and security sectors.
Zadma emphasizing the deep fraternal ties linking Libya and Algeria. He highlighted the commitment of both leaderships to expanding areas of cooperation and strengthening the bilateral partnership to serve mutual interests and contribute to consolidating security and stability along the shared border.
Customs Cooperation
The meeting addressed ways to develop customs cooperation and discussed key challenges related to combating smuggling and transnational organized crime. Both sides stressed the importance of unifying efforts, exchanging information and expertise, and adopting effective coordination mechanisms to enhance field operational efficiency and strengthen border security.
Participants also reviewed the progress made in customs cooperation between the two countries, underscoring the importance of building upon previous achievements and expanding coordination and integration to enhance the performance of both customs institutions and address current challenges.
Expediting opening of border crossings between Libya and Algeria
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of expediting the opening of border crossings between Libya and Algeria, noting the direct impact this would have on boosting trade, facilitating the movement of people and goods, and strengthening economic and social ties between the two nations. At the same time, he stressed the need to upgrade land border control systems by employing the latest technologies and smart systems; such measures would enhance customs and security performance, contribute to border protection, and help combat various forms of transborder crime.
This meeting, Zadma added, reflects the commitment of both Libya and Algeria to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and intensifying joint coordination on issues of mutual interest, thereby serving the security and stability of both countries and advancing the interests of their fraternal peoples.
