Hatif Libya, the company that operates Libya’s fixed telephone land lines, announced last Sunday (30 November) the commencement of the phased decommissioning of traditional telephone exchanges as part of its Technical Modernization Plan.
FTTx fibre optic services networks offer higher speeds and greater reliability than older copper-based systems, providing a significant upgrade to internet access.
Hatif Libya said this move comes as a prelude to the transfer of fixed-line telephone services to Libya Telecom and Technology (LTT) Company, to be provided using the latest approved technologies.
The first phase includes the decommissioning of 70 telephone exchanges. The company assures ADSL subscribers that this procedure will not affect their current services until the completion of the FTTx fibre optic services projects.
The company said the move comes as part of the wider vision of its parent company, the Libyan Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Holding Company, to develop the telecommunications sector.
This, with the aim of building a modern and sustainable infrastructure that ends the era of outdated technologies and supports the transition to a modern communications system that meets the aspirations of citizens and the business sector towards a prosperous digital future.
