The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that the Public Prosecutor had detained an officer in the Libyan Strategic Investment Authority for corruption in falsification of administrative decisions to obtain illicit benefits.
The Public Prosecutor subsequently initiated a public lawsuit because of investigations.
The Attorney General’s Office explained that the Public Prosecution received a report from the Intelligence Service, which included evidence manifested in the falsification of a decision to establish an investment authority.
This investment authority was then used in concluding agreements worth US$ 14 billion to implement strategic projects in the oil and civil construction sectors, without these projects being included in the state’s General Budget.
The investigation by the Deputy Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Office revealed that the decision to establish the Libyan Strategic Investment Authority was falsified, and that the defendants were solely motivated by the desire to enforce the agreements concluded with their contracting parties.
The investigator decided to detain the arrested defendant and directed the prosecution of the absent defendant.
