India will be sending commandos to protect its embassy in Tripoli, the Times of India reported yesterday. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will redeploy about 40 commandos soon, the Times of India said, quoting CRPF Director General Gyandendra Pratap Singh on Sunday. CRPF are also deployed in the Indian embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
The embassy had reopened in July 2024 after being shut for five years. India had withdrawn its embassy staff and CRPF security personnel from Tripoli in April 2019 after an escalation in violence. The embassy’s functions were transferred to Tunisia and later to Malta.
