EU to end Operation Sophia and to launch new Mediterranean operation to monitor UN Libya arms embargo

‏The Delegation of the European Union to Libya today joined the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) ‎in welcoming the positive steps taken by the Libyan authorities to release the detainees.‎

‎The EU Delegation said it shares UNSMIL’s deep concern over disturbing reports of enforced disappearances, including that of Mr. Mohamed El Gamati, adding that the safeguarding of fundamental human rights and the rule of law is the fundamental responsibility of any State.

It urged all relevant institutions to ‎‎promptly investigate his disappearance and take all necessary measures to ensure his immediate release and safe return to his family.‎
