Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

Under the patronage of the Minister of Economy and Commerce, Mohamed Al-Hwej, the Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade organised a workshop yesterday to promote economic diversification using technology and future planning under the banner “Innovation and Ideas Café”.

The event was organised by the Economy Ministry’s Office of Economic Modelling and Institutional Excellence, and the Department of Private Sector Development and Investment, in cooperation with UNDP Libya.

‎The workshop aims to promote economic diversification in Libya by exploring the tools of future thinking and using technology and innovation as key pillars of strategic planning.‎

‎The event included interactive sessions that used the Three Horizons model to foresee the future of vital economic sectors, such as renewable energies, e-commerce, tourism, and food industries. ‎

‎Participants stressed the importance of building effective partnerships between the public and private sectors, and enhancing the role of innovation in driving sustainable economic development. Long-term strategies are needed to diversify Libya’s economy, reduce dependence on oil and gas exports, and formulate economic policies that support the transition towards a more resilient and sustainable economy.‎
